This is a great book. It's simple, easy to read and sometimes, funny. It's really entertaining and even though it's SF, you can relate to a lot of it.

This wasn't a five star book.

BUT I'm giving it five stars because it was genuinely very entertaining and kept my attention the whole time. AND it had a non-binary character whose identity wasn't a central plot theme - I didn't even notice the use of they/them pronouns until I was probably 1/3 through the book.

Highly recommend!

It is surprising (perhaps even embarrassing) that The Kaiju Preservation Society was my introduction to John Scalzi, an author who has, in less than twenty years, become one of the giants of contemporary science fiction. Scalzi's Old Man's War has been on my list for more than five years - so many people have recommended the book to me, I am almost positive I will enjoy it.

The Kaiju Preservation Society is a fun-filled romp, a short novel that moves quickly and compulsively to an exciting, satisfying conclusion. I read the book in anticipation of trying "another" science fiction book club, a Meetup group that gets together the first Sunday of every month. I will sit in with that group this coming Sunday. I am not sure The Kaiju Preservation Society is "meaty" enough to sustain a lengthy discussion, but I expect that most other readers will have found the book as entertaining as I did; hopefully, that will be enough to see us through.

If I can carve out the time during the next several weeks, I would love to explore the extensive library of kaiju movies available on HBO Max: the original Japanese Godzilla movies and several others.

Lots of fun!
