A novella about a trans apocalpyse in which everyone needs to take estrogen or testosterone..... A wild ride this one. So different to Detransition, Baby!!!

A clever and fast-paced piece of speculative fiction concerned with trans sisterhood -- I really enjoyed it, though the ending was a bit abrupt.

wasn’t expecting to reflect on sisterhood so much. Speculative Trans Fiction is so engaging.

I liked this quite a bit! It definitely reads like an early work (which it is, so, fair), but it gets its ideas across well. This was obviously a big influence for Gretchen Felker-Martin's Manhunt, both narratively and thematically, so I'd say it's a must read for anyone who enjoyed that. Otherwise, I think it's a great little story about solidarity and the ways we can harm ourselves and others when we externalize our own insecurities. Definitely worth the read, especially now that it's easier to find in Stag Dance.
Perfectly paced and nuanced in the same vein as “Helicopter Story” with an equally allegorical dystopia. I’m midway through “Testo Junkie” and this made for a good companion piece/break from Preciado’s more theoretically dense chapters.
'Infect Your Friends and Loved Ones' has a super interesting premise - a dystopian future where a virus that causes people's bodies to stop naturally producing hormones causes everyone to live as trans people do. Strangely it's a comforting thought that even in the hormone apocalypse, the more things change the more they stay the same - we still deal with internalized transphobia; which is a large part of the story, as well as transmisogyny from TME people, we worry about being "clocked" as trans and get blamed for the end of civilization (although in this case, they're kind of right), but there's also comfort to be found in our makeshift t4t sisterhoods.
Even though there's a kind of hopelessness to this story in the idea that we'll probably remain marginalised forever, even at the end of the world, there is a comfort in the fact that we're in the margins together. It's put best in "Here's what it is - we aim high, trying to love each other and then we take what we can get. We settle for looking out for each other. And even if we don't all love each other, we mostly all respect each other."
