“We’re talking real Trauma, not someone whispering
about them on the bus, much less the burden of free drinks. To which I know I can probably come up with some of my own friends’ real Trauma, but I’m too affronted, so I just shriek: THE WHOLE WORLD MONITORS AND MOCKS MY EVERY WAKING MOMENT!”
PERIOD BITCH
Why do I find other trans people so fucking… annoying? Self-indulgent? The world had a creative premise, but the characters ruined it

A short but attention-grabbing dystopia, a virus forcing bodies to reject naturally-occurring hormones, forcing everyone to take hormones and ‘become trans’. Such an interesting premise with complicated characters- I wished there was more.

i didnt quite comprehend this book... maybe bc its midnight and I read it really quickly but it felt way too jumpy for my liking. still there were some really good excerpts from this text!!!
For a short novel, this packs one helluva punch.
The story follows a transgender woman living in a world where a virus has wiped out the body's ability to produce sex hormones naturally, so that everyone *has* to choose their own gender.
It's told out of order, so we start after the virus takes hold and move back and forth, gradually learning how it originated and why.
That choice means the character growth, which appears to be linear, isn't -- it means that ideas about what's right are constantly shifting.
INFECT YOUR FRIENDS AND LOVED ONES is a smart, fast-paced romp that'll knock the socks right off you. I can't recommend it enough. Hot damn.

Bone chilling to finish during the pandemic in which I am acutely aware things will never be on this level, but damn is it bittersweet to end the book with the cold slap of a single cough.
I found the main character quite compelling. Torrey Peters writes a good dystopia, but the love interest was not compelling at all
