La novella migliore da leggere a San Valentino (cosa capitata per caso).
Mi son ufficialmente innamorato di Torrey Peters.

Such an intriguing premise. I wish we had a little more time to get oriented to the universe. Also, the timeline jumping around was disorienting, especially in the short span of a novella. I loved the last chapter though!!

Though it bills itself as something of a 'transgender apocalypse' story, Infect Your Friends... is really a story about the relationship and lives of the messy trans women (which, at this point we can say is Peters' bread & butter as a storyteller) who cause said apocalypse. Steeped in the inside baseball of trans culture and the even more inside baseball of the insecurities many trans women hold about themselves (especially as early in transition as the characters are said to be), IYFALO manages to compress all the important points of its story into a fast-paced, if brief, novella.

“I sometimes think about my regret in the same way as I think about my closeted years. They are nothing alike, except for my desperate need to speak their truth, and my total inability to do so.”

Post-apocalyptic story written in out-of-chronological-order chunks, but in an order that logically unfurls the characters’ relationships and motivations. A good, quick read. CW for pandemic, violence, & some truly icky (to this vegetarian) images of dead pigs.
