I've been racing my way through most of the Ravenhurst books with great enjoyment, but this one was kind of a dud. I don't know why - I loved Maude in her previous appearances. I guess it was just a little too Regency Fairyland (the hero is an illegitimate Ravenhurst, and a theater owner to boot), and I tend to dislike historical romances where the heroine single-mindedly pursues a (seemingly) uninterested hero; it just makes me think about the fact that, historically, that was a really bad idea (who knows what the guy is really like?) and it doesn't provide a template for the chemistry between the main characters to rise up organically.
