While I wouldn’t say The Tourist Attraction was a great book, I thought it was a cute but quirky closed-door rom-com.

Set in the beautiful Alaskan mountains, The Tourist Attraction focuses on a tourist going on her dream Alaska vacation and ends up falling in love with the town’s grumpy restaurant owner.

There are things that worked and didn’t work well in this book. While the MCs have a pretty decent character development, Morganthaler spends a lot of time on detailing the most minor of characters, appearing in only a chapter or two and later becoming a forgettable entity. Additionally, while I did think this book can be funny at times, the slapstick humor that Morganthaler utilized in The Tourist Attraction felt, at times, forced.

Nevertheless, the book isn’t bad and I would recommend it for readers who want a destination read that focuses on more quirkier characters. However, there is definite room for improvement.

I might (emphasis on might) have given this book a higher rating, but the author uses highly fatphobic language frequently throughout the book when describing characters (not as a theme of the book or from one character describing another).

I listed ‘sexual content’ as a minor content warning, but any sex-related scenes are fade-to-black.

The book has a lot of cute moments and is
a Happily Ever After
but doesn’t really earn it and is ultimately unsatisfying.

😍😍😍😍 This was TOO CUTE, y'all. Such a perfect sick day escapist romance, I cannot even. Nerdy off-beat heroine and cinnamon roll hero + blind dog in a hat + Alaskan setting + amazing side characters + moose friends + humorous writing + just enough spice? YES PLEASE. Docked a star for fatphobia and some problematic elements that I didn't think were dealt with appropriately. I will definitely be picking up more from Sarah Morgenthaler.

The Tourist Attraction was recommended on a podcast as a true romantic comedy - the reviewer talked about how funny that found it and that they were laughing out loud.  I was really excited about it!

This book was enjoyable and the plot idea was fantastic but several things kept me from loving it.  First, the hero of the book almost immediately takes to calling the protagonist "Zoey Bear" and uses it repeatedly.  If any man tried that with me that would be the end of any interest I might have had in him.  Each time it was used (and it was used a LOT) I was immediately pulled out of the story.  There were also a few too many instances of men punching each other over stupid things.  I found that really distracting as well.

However, I still somehow came to care about the characters and was invested in how their relationship came together.  I cared about them and wanted them to be happy.  So, if the premise sounds intriguing and the concept of cute nicknames doesn't annoy you, this will probably be a very good fit for you!
