The book was enjoyable and a quick read. So I liked it. Just can't really pick anything out that makes me put it into the 4/5 range. The plot involved creepy elements but nothing that had me checking the closets and it was mostly predictable in terms of who dun it and where the romance would end. But a nice thrifty beach read.
I really enjoyed this book. There are a lot of twists and turns. Ive already downloaded the second one!
Elizabeth Gardner (Lizzy) is the one that got away... from a perverted kidnapper/killer when she was 17. Fourteen years later, it seems that the bad guy is back.
Lizzy is now a P.I. and works with teens to teach them how to avoid being abducted. Her personal life is a bit of a shambles, since she has never fully recovered from her earlier experience. Enter FBI Special Agent Jared Shayne, who was her boyfriend at the time she was abducted, and is now working on ending the criminal career of 'The Spiderman'.
I found this book to be a page turner as the story of the bad guy is revealed, and as Lizzy works through her personal issues. Mostly a suspense book, but enough 'romance' in there to satisfy.
Not sure how the series will go, but will put #2 (Dead Weight) in my want-to-read list.

I think I read this too close to One Kick (by Chelsea Cain) and the characters were too similar. That being said, I found this one a little better. There were some aspects that were unrealistic like the fact that Spider-Man was able to stop for 14 years. I think Lizzy was pretty relatable based on what she had been through.
When Lizzy Gardner was only seventeen, what should have been the perfect night became the perfect nightmare. Kidnapped just blocks from home after a romantic evening with her boyfriend, Jared, she woke up to find herself at the mercy of a depraved serial killer. Imprisoned and tormented for months by the maniac she came to know as Spiderman, Lizzy narrowly escaped, the only one of his victims to survive. But Spiderman escaped too, outwitting police and cursing Lizzy to spend her life looking over her shoulder…
Fourteen years later, Lizzy is a private investigator who teaches self-defense to teenage girls in her free time. She does what she can to help others protect themselves and to forget the horror of her ordeal, yet fears she will always be known as “the one who got away.” Then she receives a phone call from Jared, now a special agent for the FBI, with grim news. The killer has resurfaced, this time with a very specific target—Lizzy. And he’s made it clear that she will not escape him again. So begins a chilling game of cat-and-mouse, a terrifying, heart-pounding hunt that only one will survive.
This was an ok start to this series. To be honest though, I got frustrated. There was a lot of secondary characters that were introduced who felt like they had no reason to be there; one of the other characters could have filled the role in some way or that portion could have even been omitted. And a lot of the characters, especially the ones who should know better made stupid, idiotic choices. I mean, what normal person, let alone someone who's supposed to go after bad guys, leaves their phone behind?
I wavered on my feelings about Lizzy. On the one hand, I could understand her issues after everything that had happened, but still, there was something there and I just...I couldn't feel as bad for her as I might have. Maybe that's just me but I just felt like she wallowed in her issues too much rather than trying to deal with them. I started to feel a little better about her as she finally put her foot down and decided she was done dealing with Spiderman, but yeah. I did think the chemistry between she and Jared was decent and mildly sweet that he had those thoughts about what a future could have been.
Cathy pissed me off. Frustrated with her life or not, why was she such a bitch to Lizzy? Jared was right in pointing out that she hadn't been the nice person. But seriously? She's going to yell at Lizzy for basically not getting over this and then when she tries to do something about it, she takes away her niece? Seriously?! And the Moreno storyline pissed me the hell off too. Fiction or not, under no circumstances do you And really, she might have been able to beat him if she'd cared more about her life instead of a scoop or her reputation (like Lizzy mentioned).
I did get a little confused with the dates. Like on the one hand, it's nice to have those things because it tells you where you are in things, but on the other hand, it would have been nice if it included a location of some kind (Lizzy's apartment, Brittany's school, office, etc) to help determine a little more where things actually were. It was a little jarring to be focused on one thing and then have the break in the middle of the page and suddenly be back in the house with Hayley.
Like I mentioned, this was an ok intro to this series. But to be honest, between my frustrations/annoyances here and glancing ahead at some of the summaries, I don't know that I'm interested or invested enough to read the rest of the books.

STEAL ANOTHER PERSON'S PSYCH FILE!! FUCK NO! I don't care if she had no journalistic integrity, something evidenced by the fact that she was willing to consider a psycho serial killers request if only to get a scoop, but where the FUCK were her morals! You DO NOT under any circumstances violate someone that way. Absolutely not!I did get a little confused with the dates. I'm not a fan of thrillers, truly. They give me the willies and I'm already paranoid as it is. I appreciate how this book was written though. It gave enough of the details of this psycho serial killer's crimes to let your imagination soar without giving you the explicit details of his gruesome crimes. And let's be honest--what author wants to go to that dark of a space and write those thoughts down? I'm sure plenty. But T.R. Ragan was not one of them! Good, quick, thrilling read. Don't know if the character could do another book in a series format; she's a damaged individual. Think that you're pretty much reading the script to an episode of Criminal Minds.
This is the first book of this genre that I've read and now I'm hooked. It's been far too long sice a book has made me scream, shout and let out all sorts of emotions! Great read, and I'll definitely finish the series!
I wanted to stop
So trite and just chocked full of antiquated gender stereotypes. I wanted desperately to stop reading it, but I have to finish a book once I start it.

This was pretty good. The story definitely kept you interested.
While not a perfect book, I did enjoy the thriller and Lizzy herself. The killer was a bit boring and I felt like he got away with just a bit too much (and it never really resolves what happened with his wife or why), but I think I want to continue with the series.
