Unfortunately it wasn’t as good as I hoped it would be.
Really really enjoyed this, I haven't read a good classic in a while and I love the movie for this book.

I really wanted to give this a 5/5 stars, because I loved the children and their interactions with the railway and other minor characters. However, I was pretty underwhelmed by the story in itself. I feel like this could have easily been another 100 pages, a lot just didn’t happen. The inevitable reunion with the father was also underwhelming. I think this book was flawed not in what it did but on what it didn’t do . I understand that perhaps back in the day books were simply written shorten and everyone was satisfied, as books were not as appreciated as they may be now. I think this book is perfect for parents looking to read to their children 10+ and to learn how well mannered children really were back in the day. A few valuable lessons can definitely be learned from reading this, which I really enjoyed myself.

I found the whole book really charming. I don't think there is an awful lot of depth there, and it often seemed that the plot wasn't really going anywhere fast, so I'm quite surprised that I enjoyed it. I think the real appeal of this story is the fairly old-fashioned setting which made it so easy to read, and really added to the charm of the whole novel.

3.5 stars. A charmingly sweet book. Easy to read and something light to pick you up regardless of what you are reading. Simple. Not every book you read has to be complex in nature and this isn't: it's beautifully simple.

Buku ini menjadi salah satu buku klasik anak favorit saya. Cerita yang heart-warming, sederhana dan banyak pesan moral. Saya suka bagaimana anak-anak dalam buku ini digambarkan sebagai anak yang pemberani, baik, sopan, dan suka menolong. Saya juga suka sama petualangan-petualangan mereka bertiga—Roberta, Peter, Phyllis. Dan karakter anak-anak itu sendiri tidak lepas dari ajaran Sang Ibu yang bijak dengan segala kebaikan hati dan kelebihannya. Ibu pandai bercerita, menulis, berbahasa asing dan mengajari anak-anaknya.
Selain itu, saya menyukai setting pada cerita ini yakni di pedesaan dan bukit, selama membaca buku ini saya bisa membayangkan setting pedesaan dan bukit tersebut. Rasanya damai dan menyenangkan sekali.
❝ Tidakkah lebih baik kalau kita bayangkan diri kita sebagai tokoh-tokoh cerita yang ditulis oleh Tuhan? Kalau Ibu yang menulis cerita, mungkin Ibu akan membuat kesalahan. Tapi kalau Tuhan yang jadi Sang Pengarang, Tuhan tahu bagaimana mengakhiri sebuah cerita dengan sebaik-baiknya—yang terbaik bagi kita semua. ❞
