I didn’t know who Sandi Toksvig was when I got this book. That absolutely seems to be my loss. Not only did I learn a lot about my neighbourhood but a lot about almost everything. I was just intrigued by someone writing a book about their life from the perspective of each stop on one of the buses passing by my house.

A remarkable book about a remarkable person. She writes about her public life, being outed as lesbian early on, queer families, growing up in many countries, feminism, the history of south east London, ageing and much more. I loved reading this and walking around the streets she was talking about

A wonderful, unexpectedly educational, poignant, and funny book. Highly recommend the audiobook read by Sandi herself

At first, I was sceptical about this book, but once I got into it, it really is a gem. Sandi takes us on bus rides around London and tells tails of what each of the stops means to her, from her early childhood we learn that she was not interested in learning during boarding school, especially in America. her tour of the capital is very interesting and a fascinating insight into her life. Great biography and definitely a page-turner.

This is exactly the kind of memoir I like. It's not a straightforward, linear narrative for a start. Sandi takes as her inspiration/metaphor, her journeys about the part of London she lives in via bus. As she sits on the top deck, she becomes curious about the city around her and it inspires memories of her life which she recounts beautifully. It's like being in a really personal episode of QI. I love Sandi and I realised as I was reading the book that I have grown up with her in my life since I was a child. I loved her in Number 73 and I still love her now. This is affectionate, loving, funny and moving and I wish it had been about ten times longer than it was.
