Brilliant. Funny, touching, insightful, kind, page-turning, and it rhymes (and scans). I was sceptical that a novel in verse would keep my attention, but I was entirely wrong.

As all good poetry goes
In order to truly appreciate the pros
The best course of action it to the listen to the words
I can't come up with a good rhyme with words, other than angry birds
Throughout the experience of reading this book
I was startled by the direction it took
Linear thought, and a simple straight narrative
Generally seems to be in most literature the imperative
Rakoff's choice to explore the world through the brief interactions of each individual
truly does draws out and explains human nature interactions like it were the pauli exclusion principle

All in all i would recommend you listen to this book
But listen to a real recording of it, and not the electronic voice that comes out of a Nook (i'm not sure if Nook's have text to speech like a kindle, but it rhymes)

I suggest reading this beautifully rendered, breathtaking mosaic of a novel (in verse) in one sitting. David Rakoff could not have left us with a more fitting gift.

So...
As the pages grow thin and in sets the pain,
One must come to grips that dear David is gone once again.

listened to the audiobook narrated by rakoff. broke my very heart in two.

I read about this title on NPR's This American Life and ended up picking it for my book club. Reading it felt, at times bittersweet and heartbreaking, but also filled with a teasing narrative style that allowed you to feel the rage, flirtation, and love of each of the different characters. Really easy to read (even if you don't think you'll like a book told in rhyming couplets).

Read out loud.

Fascinating interlocking character sketches, and, of course, supremely clever language usage (who writes an entire book in rhyming couplets???). I'm glad it wasn't any longer than it was - the stories were good (really good, actually), but the lack of plot was hard for me, and the novelty of the verse wore off. Neat.

Will need to reread this...and I think doing so will earn a higher rating. A brilliant attempt at storytelling in rhyme.

Astounding. An achievement. Tragic and euphoric. Listening to Rakoff's voice (as he is now deceased) got me right in the heart. I can't wait to now read the book (versus listening) in order to experience the words in a new way.

I read parts of it, skipped over other parts.
