This one goes to my re-read tbr to get the nuances of Forster's writings. I'd like to find an annotated version also, since there were a ton of words I had to find the definition for that describe Indian objects. The ending chapters describe ceremonies that I need to research as well. A real page-turner for me!

so. excruciatingly. SLOW !!
trudged through this book like it was a chore. sometimes i could barely follow what was going on and who was speaking. at times, it felt more like a documentary on religion and race than a fictional novel with plot. though barely anything happens in the first 150 pages, the writing is quite beautiful and the Forster questions many aspects of society such as corruption and power imbalances rooted in racism. definitely wouldn’t reread and not sure if it was even worth the effort i put in, but i’m glad i pulled through just to be able to say i read it once. go for it if you’d like to diversify your reading a bit more and to attempt to understand culture clashes.
