They have a love hate relationship and I have a love hate relationship with them
This book was on my radar the first time around when it was indie published and then I saw it come across @netgalley and thought ‘this is my moment’!
Fairydale is a dark (check your triggers) gothic romance and Darcy finds out her biological father passes away and she goes to this town to get her inheritance. But Fairydale is no normal town lol. It’s a spooky spooky place. Things start to get weird the moment she gets there.
There’s two men and three timelines and demons and witches and I really loved the plot and where it was going and went. But the length lol. I knew going into this one that it was a long book and that I’d be confused a lot of the time (which is fine, that’s me a lot - I like to just ride the authors wave) but the length.
This book is like 800 pages. And I’ve read long books before but they didn’t FEEL this long you know? I think because this book is a slow burn, it felt longer. The romance was a slow burn and so was the plot. You get tidbits and then more tidbits that counteract the tidbits you did get but nothing felt like ‘WOW that’s crazy’ to keep me extra invested for another 400 pages, you know?
Overall it was a decent read, I’m happy it’s off my TBR and the two weeks of Augtober have finally begun!
Thank you thank you to NetGalley and atria books for letting me read this one early!

Ms. Veronica Lancet… I fear this may be a masterpiece. *Standing ovation—complete with slow clapping* Seriously, my jaw is still on the floor.
What a wild ride this was! Multiple timelines and multiple storylines to explore and get list in. The haunting atmosphere and beautiful moments are absolutely everything. From concept to execution I was hooked. This is an absolutely mind-bending, unhinged and stunning romance novel with dark gothic fantasy and paranormal elements.
This love story has a long buildup, but the culmination of this love story is gut-wrenchingly beautiful, and definitely worth the perseverance.
I received an eARC of Fairydale.

I can't express how addictive this book is! I was obsessed from the get-go and loved the ominous and unsettling tone. I was fully immersed in the story and could not put the book down. I love getting completely lost in long books and this one allowed exactly that. The plot could not be more different, but the surrealism felt similar to "I'm Thinking of Ending Things" for the first half of the story. Basically just a total mind trip until all of the details come together.
I completely understand why this book is polarizing. Large standalones can be daunting, especially this one since it can feel like traversing through a fog of confusing yet mesmerizing dreamlike sequences. The story truly creeps up on you. Once everything connected, I was left feeling simultaneously devastated and enthralled.
There is no real clarity in regards to the plot until about halfway through. You just have to accept what you're reading and enjoy the beautiful moments and haunting atmosphere until everything is revealed. This book was ambiguous, which worked since we learn everything entirely through Darcy's perspective. It allowed me to just get completely lost in an across-eons love story. In the end, I truly felt connected to the feelings of the FMC and MMC because of the long build up. I hope that anyone who picks this book up perseveres through the eldritch vibes because the culmination of love and romance was absolutely incredible!

Tropes:
-dark gothic romance
-multiple timelines
-multiple storylines
-fated mates
-slow burn
-forced proximity
-touch her and die
-morally grey MMC
This was a beautiful and dark story. I was immediately sucked in, and I needed to know where the story was leading. I will admit that about 60% through, I started questioning everything. I went to the book community to make sure that this was indeed a standalone and that I wasn’t getting bamboozled into a cliffhanger after reading this long a book. Many people told me, "Just keep reading, it is worth it." Let me be the one to say to you, it is worth it.
This is the epitome of a love story. Our MMC will find the FMC in every lifetime. It is such a devastatingly beautiful trope, and Lancet delivers it perfectly in Fairydale. This is one of those books that will stick with me. It is hard to even put into words how much swoon is in this story. I can not recommend it enough. If you love fantastic world-building and a slow burn that is worth every second of yearning, I highly recommend this one.
Quotes:
“Your soul. Your very essence and everything that makes you, you. Will you give me that? Lizzie mine? Will you surrender everything that you are to me?”
“Will you deserve it?”
“No one will ever deserve it, Lizzie,” he rasps. “No one,” he states emphatically. “But I would devote an eternity to earn the right to call it mine.”
“Wherever you are, wherever you go . . .”
“Whoever you are. I will find you. That is my promise to you. Always.”
In that moment I know. I simply know that this is what I’d been searching for my entire life. His absence is the reason for that restlessness that simmered in my blood for so long. And his presence . . .
His presence makes my essence sing. Without him, I was lost. With him, I am found again.

When Darcy O'Sullivan receives a letter revealing the identity of her late father-the man who left her orphaned-she's shocked to learn she's heir to a substantial fortune. To claim it, she must travel to Fairydale, a quaint Massachusetts town where strange happenings begin the moment she arrives. By day, she catches the eye of notorious Caleb Hale; by night, she dreams of the enigmatic Amon d'Artan. As Darcy navigates her new family, a growing romance, and a reality that feels increasingly uncertain, she must decide if this new life is worth the cost.
This is my second time reading Fairydale and I am even more awestruck than the first. There are SO many subtle foreshadowing moments throughout the book that you will only catch on the first read if you are careful enough to spot them. I love how this story is written with the answers basically handed out on a platter, but only when you realize they have been done so. Each layer of this story unfolds so beautifully through Darcy's dreams; it is fun to learn the truth as she is learning it as well and provides for some unreliable narration. While it may seem confusing at first, Veronica Lancet is able to weave the threads together to create an epic love story like no other. This is the type of book that will never leave you once you read it and will impact you from every day forward.
My heart yearns for a love like Amon -- one where he would do anything and everything to have one eternal love. I can't imagine what it would be like to have the love of your life die multiple times and have to wait centuries for each rebirth just to ensure in this timeline you both survive. I really appreciated Mr. Meow in the reread because he will NEVER let Darcy feel alone, even when she has no idea what she's missing. Their love is a gold standard for what we should all be looking for when we find our partners. Definitely read this book if you love complex stories that are emotionally devastating with intricate relationships between characters, it will change your life.
Fairydale is perfect for those that love:

you call, I come
touch her & die
