I just finished teaching this play to seventh graders and I had no idea I would love it this much as I pretty much detested this play when I had to read it in college. I blame that on the fact that I had to read it in a Post-Colonial Literature Class. The class itself- fascinating. Reading The Tempest through that particular lens? Too narrow for me. I love the humor, the power hunger, the struggle between revenge and forgiveness. I think the quote "We are such stuff as dreams are made on and our little life is rounded with a sleep" has to be one of my all time favorite lines of Shakespeare.

The Tempest has some of my favourite Shakespearean quotes in it. I even found 'Come, thou tortoise'!

After reading this I'm wondering if Shakespeare was actually just pulling a "Lost" plot line on us. I bet they all really died in the shipwreck.
