this was a reread, I first read it when I was 12/13 and now re reading it as a 16 years old is still amazing. it's an amazingly written book, so beautiful with a really enjoyable and interesting plot. the characters are very lovely and I felt so immersed in the book's story and kinda wished I was in it.

This book was so heartwarming, I loved the exploration of the protagonist and the secondary characters. The world of the yaga's was magical and also a really healthy and beautiful attitude to coping with death.
The themes of family, friendship what you want, being truthful and open with people who love you was beautifully done. I hugged the book at the end.

The main character appeared to face and reface similar obstacles within herself and her growth was a roller coaster ride, tho i suppose that's how real life growth is. It was difficult to relate to the mc, but she's also a child. I expected more consistency in the mc and her gradual learning, but it took this character LOTS of trial and error to get to where she got.

I loved this book but it took me a little while to get hooked. Initially, I was put off by the idea of guiding the dead and thought I may have struggled reading this as a child. As a deep thinker when I was younger, I think the concept may have been a bit much for me. However, I’m so glad I kept going with the book - it was wonderful. I was totally lost in Marinka’s world, and I loved the house!

I read this book because my 12-year-old daughter recommended it to me, but if I hadn't been reading it for her, I don't think I would have stuck with it. I quickly got annoyed with Marinka's repetitive thoughts of not wanting to be a Yaga and wanting to do what she wants to do. It's realistic for a 12-year-old, but maybe because I have a discontented, ungrateful 12-year-old child myself, I was particularly uninterested in reading about another one. I can see this book being appealing to tweens and teens, but it wasn't for me.

This was such a stunning book. I was not expecting to like this adventure as much as I did. I totally enjoyed the vibes and just the whole voyage of the grey area between life and death and finding yourself.
This book is definitely a comfort read for me. It was so realistically magical . It had humor and friendship. It was just a beautifully crafted story and just perfectly done. I’m shook.
Highly recommend you pick this up.
