This was a rather disappointing MG read. I quite liked the story but the main character, Marinka, does not feel loveable nor does she make me slowly grow fond of her. It's true that she's a pre-teen with growing pains but somehow the writing stops me from seeing her view of things. Oh, well. I was hoping to read more from this author but maybe her writing is not for me.
Cute folktale inspired story with lots of whimsy. A lot of whining though which was repetitive and annoying.
I started to reread it… then I decided I didn’t want to cry. It’s weird how middle grade books make me feel like this
Beautifully written with an excellent pace. This book is incredibly unusual but vivid in imagination. You quickly become attached to the characters and are gripped by the idea of the main character’s fate being sealed. Very enjoyable with a beautiful view on life and everything in between. Definitely recommended as a young adult read but just as thoroughly enjoyable for the older generations too.
