This story is so beautiful yet so heartbreaking.

I loved both Clara and Morgan but was also furious with them at the same time, this was my first time reading a Mother and Daughter dual POV and it was brutal but so insightful.

There were so many things I did not expect to happen but it just shows how incredible and unpredictable life can be.

The whole book was just one big juxtaposition and I loved it.

Mural pining is a trope I love in romance so this just worked for me. I preferred the mom/daughter relationship, then dealing with the grief and the moms love story more than the daughters storyline, but both romances are really cute.

I enjoyed Colleen Hoover's engaging storytelling as always, but this story was a bit too YA contemporary for me. I didn't feel like this stands very far apart from other YA contemporaries centered on grief. As far as the romance arc's go, Clara and Miller's was the most prominent. Which overall felt like a generic YA romance that I've read time and time again. Boredom is an unfamiliar feeling for me when it comes to CoHo's books, but I was for sure feeling it here.

I will say that Miller was extremely loveable. He and his gramps were the highlights in this book for me.

Here's my fav quote:

“Attraction isn’t something that only happens once, with one person. It’s part of what drives humans. Our attraction to each other, to art, to food, to entertainment. Attraction is fun. So when you decide to commit to someone, you aren’t saying, ‘I promise I’ll never be attracted to anyone else.’ You’re saying, ‘I promise to commit to you, despite my potential future attraction to other people.’” I look at Clara. “Relationships are hard for that very reason. Your body and your heart don’t stop finding the beauty and the attraction in other people simply because you’ve made a commitment to one person. If you ever find yourself in a situation where you’re drawn to someone else, it’s up to you to remove yourself from that situation before it becomes too hard to fight.”

This book had so many twists and turns! And I loved it! Morgan and Clara had a lot to work through and navigate after the loss they experienced. There was so many heartache and anger to endure. I'm just glad that in the end we got a happy ending for both the mother and the daughter.

Na novou Colleen jsem se moc těšila. Vždycky je to čtení maximálně na dva dny, protože její knihy prostě nejdou odložit. A Nelituju ničeho mi uteklo až příliš rychle.

First, I love how quick a CoHo flies. This is one I enjoyed aspects and some I didn’t, so hitting middle ground for a 3 on the CoHo scale.

There were two main things that I had a hard time with for this: (1) lack of communication that led to assumptions and preventable situations. (2) how much time is spent inside the characters’ heads, narrating every single thought and assumption.

At face value, it is understandable that the communication is broken between a teen and her young mom especially under the circumstances of sudden and unexpected grief.

It did make me sad how Miller was trampled on throughout and just kept taking hits from Clara. He’s a child who has suffered his own moments of grief with one looming ahead. That saying “just because it looks like someone can carry something well, doesn’t mean it isn’t heavy” was so strong here.

I really liked Jonah and his character development.

Morgan and Chris had Clara when they were 17 and got married shortly after. Chris pursued a career and Morgan was a SAH. Morgan’s sister Jenny was similar to Chris and was Clara’s best friend.

On the morning of Morgan’s birthday, she gets a call that Chris and Jenny had been in a fatal wreck, revealing that they had been having an affair.

Clara blames herself because she was texting Jenny. She has a difficult time processing her grief and takes it out on her mom and acts out in ways that would upset her mother.

Side note: I really didn’t care for the emphasis of how great Clara is at acting and Morgan isn’t at lying.

As always Colleen did an amazing job pulling at my heart strings. I didn't cry until the end though but it was a happy moment that made me cry. I also think that it has the potential for a second book. I feel like a second book with the guys POV could be done. I cant wait to see what she comes up with next. ❤
