I saw this book on my Goodreads newsfeed and was taken immediately by the beautiful cover. The existing reviews were all very positive and true to my experience.
I found this book to be a delightful, romantic and quick read.
The author has done a marvelous job of building a world that we can enter without miles and miles of backstory. There were subtle references to other fantasy elements like magic, supernatural abilities, sorcery, etc but it wasn't the main theme.
This book is all about the relationship between Brishen and Ildiko, who were far more kind and human to each other than I've come to expect in books lately. From their first meeting onward, they treated each other with respect and I appreciated that SO much. It was nice to spend the weekend reading about this relationship and watching it evolve. It's a beautiful story about friendship and eventual love.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a quick read with a nice love story. Will also add that I was pleased to learn around the 75% mark that this book was not a YA novel, if you know what I'm saying, hehe. Looking forward to reading the second book whenever it arrives.

What a great story and Draven is an amazing storyteller. I absolutely loved the characters. These were well written characters as this was more character driven than story driven. Ildiko and Brishen had incredible chemistry right from the start. I loved their slow romance and their respect and love for each other. There wasn’t much to the story for most of the book so that was a downfall, but I still loved it overall and it picked up in the end. A great tale that reminded me of the books I loved growing up- like Crown Duel.

Ildiko and Brishen are very sweet and I like their relationship a lot. However, the last 10-20% of the book just felt really rushed and like we were blowing through plot points. Overall it was a cute story but I don't find myself feeling compelled to read the next book.
