One of the best books I’ve ever read. I LOVE, LOVE how the main characters make good decisions and treat each other well. I never once rolled my eyes or threw my book down in disgust at some completely stupid thing the characters did because they actually acted like adults! The story was well written and had a great plot.

I could sit here and nitpick, but I'd say that it was a pretty solid book for me. I really like to the author's writing style. She is very descriptive and it brings you into the story.

I called the fmc Ikida the entire story because I disliked her name🕴but the story itself was fun! It kind of reminded me of Warprize/Warsworn/Warlord in a weird way? Maybe in the writing style itself?
I appreciated the dynamics between Ikida and Brishen from the beginning, and adored how it developed. Truly a well done she fell first he fell harder type situation.

3/5 stars
Unpopular opinion time...
I had such high, high hopes for this book! I was ready to rate it 5 stars when I began reading, but the only thing that saved it from me giving it 2.5 was the ending and the beautiful cover.
1. It was insta-love at it's finest. Based on the description, I thought they weren't going to like each other much at first...but it turns out it was just insta-love.
2. The characters were waaay too perfect. Like seriously, I'm sick of hearing how great your partner is (which is weird, because you're not supposed to like them???). They're all so charming and handsome and beautiful and nice and perfect and I just want to hurl.
3. Calling each other only "wife" or " husband" - a little freaky deaky.
4. The dialogue was dorky and didn't sit right with me. The witty banter got some laughs out of me, but I got real sick of hearing how perfect they were for each other.
At least at the end there was because if not I probably would've just skimmed through the ending. I probably won't read the second book - I'm mildly curious, but I can just look up a synopsis online.

This was such a refreshing take (for me, I know this book came out in 2014) on the fantasy romance genre. I love how the two main characters think the other is hideous before they really build their connection and relationship and see how they just make each other better. so slay!
It was fun to see these two MCs who didn’t start out attracted to each other build such a solid romantic connection. Very sweet and it felt genuine too.
