5.0
A sensational, thrilling fictionalised account of the Mexican drug wars spanning the last decade (from publication)
This was my first encounter with Winslow and he has a unique style that is part hardboiled American crime and part Hemmingway. Some may scoff at that comparison but it has that short, snappy tone that takes a while to grasp but really crawls under your skin after a while. Plus if Hemmingway was still alive I bet a half decent wager he'd be reading books like this.
Five highly deserved stars.
