After reading The Crimson Petal and The White, I thought another Faber book would be a no-brainer in terms of quality read. Unfortunately, I was wrong. The Fire Gospel was actually kind of a huge letdown. It was anticlimactic and seemingly pointless. It left me wondering at the fact that I somehow managed to read all the pages but miss the entire story…
Reader’s Digest for those who don’t plan to read it: Man finds ancient scrolls which turn out to be a fifth gospel. Man translates them and puts them together into a book. Man goes on a book tour. Man gets minimal appreciation, and many criticisms. Man gets death threats. Man wishes people would be more open-minded and less like blind, bleating humanoid sheep. Nothing changes and nothing else happens. The end.
There– I saved you 12 hours of reading. You should thank me by dedicating time to a better book!
