It’s really hard to rate this book. The story itself is intense and hits way too close to home, but the art and elastic take on human anatomy - especially with the insanely miss proportioned fingers - was incredibly distracting to me all the time. Clara is going through a severe depressive episode due to an off-page sexual assault, and her job and friends are sucking whatever remains of life she has out of her. Her search for help is a kick in the stomach as I too have searched for help only to be hit by shockingly high costs for therapy or long wait lists that make everything seem impossible and dying feeling like a better, more reasonable option. The writing is stark and emotional, and the illustration of faces are full of emotion. I just wish I hadn’t been so distracted by extra long noodle arms, badly proportioned hands, and fingers that are often arm-length. All issues with my own preferences, so others experience with this book could be very different and more favorable.
