This was a very ethereal and atmospheric book which focuses on the ordinary lives of 4 high school friends, with a supernatural fantasy story occurring in the background. It was quite difficult to understand what was really happening behind the scenes and the supernatural aspect only briefly intersects with the main storyline, which I found quite weird but also sort of effective. By the end of the book, everything had been resolved and it was much easier to understand. Overall, it was unlike anything I've ever read and was fresh perspective on teenage life.

A cute, quick read. Lots of rep: WOC, gay & bi MCs, eating disorders, mental illness maintenance. 

Love the idea of telling the stories of the “regular kids” in the background of a Chosen One’s adventure. World-building was a bit lacking.

The Rest of Us Just Live Here had so many great elements to it - perspective from the kids who aren't "the chosen ones", discussion around mental health and eating disorders, strong sibling relationships, and a fun writing style, where "the chosen one" storyline is included with short paragraphs at the beginning of each chapter.
