so incredibly raw and beautiful. as a butch loving he/him femme this was so important for me personally. major tws for sexual violence tho! not gratuitous at all, just shows the harshness of the oppression lesbians faced. never felt more proud to be a lesbian <3

challenging dark inspiring sad fast-paced
Even if you don't read this book you should look up the author - what an incredible and inspiring person. I'm really glad that a book club forced me to read this because I don't know if I would have picked it up otherwise. The beginning is quite dark and I found it difficult to read, but the story was so compelling I kept going. It's clear why this book is so foundational and important to our understanding of the trans experience, and I would like to read some of the author's non-fiction if I can get hold of it.
