very important book. i’m glad i read it. well written, this rating is a reflection of how much i personally enjoyed reading it. i found it difficult at times bc it was so sad and challenging but that was an important part of it. just took me a while to get through.
This is not for the faint of heart and I trust anyone who goes in to read it to know all the content warnings and what is to be covered. Even as someone who already accepts themselves as gay, this book is framed in a frank and earnest way about, while a fictional story, things that did occur and the history that sits before the 2000s. It was hard to read at times, but it is supposed to be.
So basically everyone who said I would love this book and that I need to read it asap was right

This book broke me, remade me, reflected me, and shaped how I understand myself. It is not a perfect book, but it is powerful and impactful and I will forever hold it close because of what it offered me at a time I didn't know I needed it.
life changing. everybody tells you to read it and once you do you understand why. took me a little bit because of how heavy the topics are. i had to power through the beginning, the heaviest part of the book. so tragic and stunning. i was always captivated by the writing. i don’t know how many sentences i underlined. the letter at the very beginning omg.
