Such a sad, but necessary read. Not only from a queer history perspective, but from a general history perspective. You can totally tell what parts of this book were taken from Leslie's real life experiences or experiences zie was told about. They are just written from a perspective that is so personal that you know it was something zie personally experienced. 
It was interesting seeing parallels today and how issues the butch community faced then are still issues the butch community face now. Time really is a circle, huh?

This book should be required reading for every queer youth, especially trans, lesbian, and gnc youth. I don't think there's another book in existence that so honestly and accurately represents growing up a "he she". More people need to read this and learn about their history and the nuances of gender and sexuality. So many people have the urge to simplify it and make it palatable for cishet society and end up losing the beauty that so many characters in Stone Butch Blues have.
