Not Rowling standard (because who is?) but a really really stupendous effort for a fanfic. Best fanfiction I've ever read.
This book did such a great job of taking me back to Rowling's Harry Potter world! It was worth it even to see a brief glimpse of what Lippert imagined our favorite Harry Potter characters got up to once they had grown up and had children. The original characters were likable and flawed in all the right ways, too, and I loved that Lippert created James' own trio to help him grow throughout the story. I can't wait to read the next ones in the series!
This finally went to my 'did not finish' shelf. Yes, it has JKR' s characters, but it totally lacked the clever wit of JKR and her writing skills.
As much as it was kind of a fun book and I did enjoy several of the new characters, this book was horribly long and terribly disappointing. If considering this book, just remind yourself that it is NOT Rowling's work by any means.
I liked it... Kind of. I spent probably 60% of the book hoping to just get to the end already

This is a very good fanfic but it is just that- I was really hoping to get my Harry Potter fix but it's not Harry Potter so I found myself really disappointed (which was probably unreasonable but knowing I was being unreasonable still didn't make the disappointment go away). G Norman Lippert is a good writer but he's not J K Rowling and in places the pacing felt bit odd and the plot felt a bit forced.
I felt like the characters were a bit jumbled, with the year and house system a lot less defined it was just more confusing to remember who was who. I also felt like none of the characters really seemed to be whichever age they were supposed to be; James didn't seem like an 11 year old and it seemed unlikely that the much older characters (up to 17) would really want to mess around with an 11 year old.
For the most part it was a nice addition to the harry potter world however there were a few places where I felt like my childhood was being a little bit dispoiled
Also you don't need skele-gro for broken arms- only if you actually need to have some of your bone regrown completely from scratch so James didn't even need to be in the hospital wing!!

Harry defeated Voldemort- he can't come back! It's the rules! Don't destroy my happy ending!!!Also you don't need skele-gro for broken arms- only if you actually need to have some of your bone regrown completely from scratch so James didn't even need to be in the hospital wing!!
Being a huge Harry Potter fan, I was excited to read my first fan fiction and I was not disappointed. Lippert did a great job telling a new story in the Harry Potter universe while staying true to Rowling's original characters. While some of it seems far-fetched, such as Benjamin Franklin, even though i got a laugh out of that, Lippert's writing style reminded me a lot of Rowling's in the original seven books. This was a great read and I am excited to start the others in his series to find out more of the adventures of the son of the Chosen One!
Interesting fan-fiction read on HP's son. enjoyed most of it except the influence of American culture in the writing.
I was surprisingly pleased with this! Fun, evocative of the 3rd HP, and clever. And Cedric returning as a Hogwarts ghost? Brilliant!
Book #22 Read in 2017
James Potter and the Hall of Elders' Crossing by G. Norman Lippert
This is a series that features Harry Potter's son James. This is the first book in the series. In this book, James begins his studies at Hogwarts and follows in his father's footsteps with making good friends, getting in some trouble and having to solve some mysteries. This book stayed true to the feel of Harry Potter and I think Harry Potter fans will find it enjoyable.
