I came across the James Potter series written by G. Norman Lippert late last year, and based on the praises it received from readers, especially from many Harry Potter fans, made me decide to have a go at reading it. I am a Harry Potter fan myself, as I have read the entire series front-to-back multiple times, and even was among the many who queued in front of the bookstore for the new release of the books. However, when I first started reading the first book of the James Potter series, I was quite repulsed by it. The author’s writing style, and the tone in a book, while quite similar to the original works, was different enough such that I could not put myself to read much further than few pages. Perhaps I was trying too hard to imagine that it was written by J.K. Rowling when I opened the book for the first time. In any case, I put off reading the book for quite some time. I finally came back to it after completing a ‘reading marathon’ of the entire Harry Potter series, mainly because my desire to immerse myself in the Harry Potter universe rekindled. And powered through the book I did. My skepticism came back when I read the first chapter, but soon I was hooked. It was exciting to read about the old characters again, and interesting to see how the magical universe turned out after the fall of ‘you know who’. Most of all, the story that the author told in the book was very good. While it constantly looped in the characters and the background of the old Harry Potter universe (which as a fan, I was glad), it was original enough to stand on its own. Like any other Harry Potter books, I am looking forward to the next chapter of the series. Overall, it was an enjoyable read.

I'll give this series one more book. That's it though

Captures beautifully the tone and style of Rowling's work, while contributing engaging new chapters of the saga focusing on Harry and Ginny's son. More please, Norman!

This has made me rethink my disdain of fan fiction. It has reflections of Rowling, but obviously the author was not trying to imitate her. Inspired work. I will read on. True to the Potter universe and full of fun and adventure. I highly recommend this story!

This story is basically just a Harry Potter fanfiction posted on it's own website and in PDF format unlike most fanfictions. However, it is a very good fanfiction. This was probably one of the best fanfictions I've read. You really feel like you're reading an actual book instead of a fanfiction. I can't wait to read the next one in the series!

Well, first of all it is very brave to write a follow-up to a much beloved book and culture. I was nervous going into this that it would ruin my love for HP. It didn't do that, although I ended the book with mixed reactions.

I know this is silly but it felt unfaithful to the characters to have Harry, Ginny, Neville, Luna, Hermione, and Ron show up at all. I think I would have liked this better if they had been left out and we'd been left to continue in the same world without the same characters.

I also felt it was strange to change points of the original books and make major plot points of them. 1) In JP, characters in paintings cannot move from one painting to another. There's even a class on it. What? In HP, characters are always switching paintings. Strange. 2) In JP, during their first dinner there are elves running all over the place and serving the students. They never mention that being changed or why. In HP, they don't even know that the elves exist until several books in.

Despite all of this, though, it was interesting to go back to the same world. I enjoyed being back at Hogwarts and the magical world. I will not read any of the other books, but it did reignite my desire to rewatch all of the movies.

Couldn't finish. To many inconsistencies for me to let go. I know the world can change in Time but let's get real seventh years do not have class with first years. And they do not sleep in the same chamber. The fact that they could leave the hogwarts grounds without trouble was unbelievable and the fact that this was done to mess with a muggle was not cool. It seemed as though the author tried to do away with everything hogwarts was built on, this did not work at all. Also, the book was very Americanized and focused more on muggle life that life at hogwarts.

I was reading it and I haven't finished it yet but goodreads took it off eBooks so now I can't read it so I can't give a decent review. :( I will as soon as I get it. Does anyone know if they have it at TADL? (traverse area district library for those of you who don't know ( which is probably a lot))

But of everything I got to read I would give this a 4.7 out of five stars. I am a HUGE fan of Harry Potter. This newer book about dem wizards is pretty much is up there at my standards of good books. just a couple things I might change but not gonna mention so I don't spoil it for anyone who hasn't read it. (Yes I know there is a spoiler alert button I just don't like using it) Lippert describes the world really well. Almost as good as J.K. Rowling (almost but no one is as good as her at describing The Wizarding world it's just impossible) I like how he has James tell the story in the same POV as J.K. Rowling did for Harry. I would recommend this book for any HP fan; if you've just started loving HP or if you're a long time fan. :)

I was a little apprehensive about reading this book. I loved all the Harry Potter books, and was sad when Deathly Hallows was released. I'm excited about the continuation of the Harry world, and have heard this books praises, but am still holding a small amount of hope that J.K. Rowling will do a continuation of her series, and I don't want to ruin it with preconceived notions from another source. I have answered the to read/not to read question as I usually do, and will read the book.

This book is shockingly well written for fan fiction. It's a delightful continuation of the Harry Potter world. It is definitely worth the read.
