For anyone that has or has ever had anxiety or depression... this book changed my life and made me feel less alone. So highly recommended. Allie Brosh, will you be my best friend?

"But a few times a year, I spontaneously decide that I’m ready to be a real adult. I don’t know why I decide this; it always ends terribly for me. But I do it anyway. I sit myself down and tell myself how I’m going to start cleaning the house every day and paying my bills on time and replying to emails before my inbox reaches quadruple digits. Schedules are drafted. Day planners are purchased. I stock up on fancy food because I’m also planning on morphing into a master chef and actually cooking instead of just eating nachos for dinner every night. I prepare for my new life as an adult like some people prepare for the apocalypse.
The first day or two of my plans usually goes okay."

"The longer I procrastinate on returning phone calls and emails, the more guilty I feel about it. The guilt I feel causes me to avoid the issue further, which only leads to more guilt and more procrastination. It gets to the point where I don’t email someone for fear of reminding them that they emailed me and thus giving them a reason to be disappointed in me."

I had actually never heard of this book until Kat from Katytastic said something about it in one of her videos. She said it was hilarious and that she loved it! (Cool story: I went to Books A Million the day after I watched her video that this was mentioned in, and I saw it. For about 5 dollars, in hardcover so it was destiny.) Typically, I trust Kat's reviews and Hyperbole and a Half was no exception.

I absolutely love this book. This was so freaking funny. I wanted to high five the author, Allie Brosh, all throughout this book. At one point I was reading this at 1 A.M., and I was trying super hard not to burst into laughter as to not wake my parents, and I felt this massive laughter about to erupt. So, I tried to smother it and failed. I don't even know how to describe the sound I made. It was like the beautiful sound of a bird cawing and cat dying. Beautiful image. Now back to the book.

I really enjoyed this, and if you need a book to make you laugh, Hyperbole and a Half is most definitely for you.

P.S. I quite love Kat. Along with Christine, Sasha, Regan, Raeleen, Jesse, Ben, Tasha, and Katie. They are my spirit animals.

P.S.S. In the very unlikely case that any of the people above are reading this, please don't file a restraining order. Because I quite love and enjoy all of your videos.

P.S.S.S. Last P.S. I swear. Booktube is life.

I cannot believe that a book which is this hilarious is also one of the best portrayals of mental health I've ever come across - it feels like such an empathetic read. I related to Allie so much, especially when she spoke about her internal voice shaming her.

Relatable, chaotic, side-splitting

Go find this book...read it...laugh...read it out loud to anyone near you...laugh louder and longer...make others read it...laugh with them.

Chuckle to yourself every time you glance at it.

Laugh some more.

Pass it on.

This was such a fun read. I was a long time fan of the web comic and was so confused when the site went silent, but glad to hear that the author was writing a book. It is so funny!

I have never struggled with depression but have several friends and family members who have, and her description of depression has helped me to understand what they might have gone through. I also love the stories about the dogs and the geese. And hot sauce.
