I'm sure it's because it was a part of a deal or was up for free, but I have no idea how this book ended up on my Audible account. So, when I was looking for a timewaster, I figured something that appeared in my periphery when I wasn't paying attention might not be the worst idea.

And, while it wasn't necessarily the worst idea, it also wasn't a good idea.

I really should have just DNF'd this. I don't know what I was expecting by finishing it. I knew precisely how it would go and knew it would do so without charm or finesse, yet I pressed onward, as if to prove something.

I got little to nothing out of this and I will surely forget it quite soon.

Ugh this book was a struggle to get through. It took me four days and I'm a 3 hour per book kind of girl. Annoying annoying lead character and super over dramatic plot with little resolution. Not my cup of tea.

(Audiobook)
I knew when I started this that it wasn’t going to be for me. Someone else might find it charming, but I thought it was extremely juvenile. Maybe I would have a different outlook if it wasn’t audiobook, who knows, but I couldn’t take the narrator seriously either. Too much cheese.

Cali wasn't looking for a fresh start when she and her best friend Gen decided to come back to Cali's hometown in Lake Tahoe for the summer. But little did she know that her life was filled with crippling imperfections and a fresh start was exactly what she needed in order to get her life back on the fast-track to true happiness, starting with that first fateful reunion with one Jaeger Lang.

It has been quite some time that I have read a book where the only drama was of the mundane variety (as mundane as you can get with sleazy coworkers, chaotic life-changes, and one psycho ex-girlfriend that is). There was nothing supernatural about this book beyond Jaeger's almost instant devotion to Cali, and I cannot believe how happy I was with this, as I am a die-hard supes reader.

Jaeger stole my heart from his first teasing words to Cali. His obvious attraction to Cali and protectiveness towards her from the very beginning drew me in like nothing else. I swooned hardcore for this gentle giant. Though despite his naturally loving nature, whenever someone came after Cali with wicked intent, he was fully capable of setting them straight and sending their asses PACKING. He truly is a keeper!!

A-plus for this truly outgoing story about the everyday struggles of life and love, as well as some not-so-everyday hardships and trials. An incredibly dramatic and captivating read. And best of all (to me at least) is that this book stands perfectly fine alone!! You need not read on if you do not prefer, though in my opinion there were definitely many questions that could (and probably should) be pursued in the four succeeding books, from the POVs of those that these questions pertain to. Not sure yet is I will continue reading the series (since I don't have to in order to understand more about Cali and Jaeger's story), but I am strongly considering it, and I advise you do the same. I am sure it would be worth it!!

I was after something summer romance cosy mystery type style to combat all the dark hardness of current reading, which also keeps up with the current kindle challenge.  I thought this might work, it has all the high angst of a chick lit plot with the main character finally figuring her life out coupled with a hot 🔥 man will they won't they thing.
