This is so chillingly deep, as how spirals infect population like the bubonic plague whilst it serves as a treat to the inner vices and an enormous attention devouring capacities of humans. It somehow portrays the evils of modern times by this "spiral obsessions", in a similar way as the ancient generations metaphorized despair, turmoil, and sufferings as demons or something outright evil.

This had me gasping, laughing, cringing, wincing, & screaming wtf. it's a freakin masterpiece. i loved the underlying themes of vanity & obsession too. can't wait to read the rest of the volumes ASAP. junji ito's horror is unmatched.

Weird, just weird. Captivating type of weird, yet quite weird.

I've heard a lot about Junji Ito but to be honest, I didn't have super high expectations because I'm not interested in horror manga. After reading the first volume, I found the book to bank more on shock value than anything; the mystery didn't draw me in, and I didn't really care too much about the reason behind the spiral psychosis. I did really like the art style, and I really enjoyed looking at the disturbing bits, but that's about it. I don't plan on reading the rest of the series.
