Engaging the Boss by Noelle Adams

Really loving the stuff Noelle Adams is coming up with. As a woman with a husband who is a scientist, I have a thing for nerdy heroes. Especially ones that are a bit oblivious to the world around them. Jonathan fits this bill perfectly. He's 100% focused on his lab and research and doesn't really date or spend time doing things unrelated to his work. His lab partner Sarah has had a thing for him for a while, realizing that a relationship between the two will never come to fruition as long as his focus remains fully on his work.

When Sarah volunteers to act as Jonathan's fake fiancee for a week long celebration of his cousin's wedding the sparks begin flying. The two discover the depth of their feelings for each other just as the truth of their "engagement" becomes known.

Adams has written a novel that has perfected sexual chemistry. The relationship between Jonathan and Sarah simmers beautifully before exploding with a well worth the wait finale.

When I first started reading Engaging the Boss I thought it was just okay. Just a cheesy romance that would just be meh. The more I read, the farther I got in the book, the more I started to get into it the more I enjoyed it.

Jonathan and Sarah have been working together for years. Sarah is Jonathan's assistant and she has always had a crush on him. And Jonathan? Well he is so into his work he never really pays attention to other things. Sure he knows he gets along well with Sarah and he is always doing small things for her that are so sweet, but he never really stops to think about her in a way other than she is his assistant. He is just so focused on his work he doesn't really think about a lot of other things.

When Jonathan needs someone to be his fiance to keep his financing for his research Sarah offers to stand in and help him out. Jonathan quickly starts to notice Sarah as more than his assistant, quickly starts to see that there might be something there, but he tries not to act on it since she does work for him and she obviously doesn't like him like that. Oh it was fun. The more I got to know him the more I liked Jonathan. He is kind of awkward, he doesn't really use his words a lot, but he is still so sweet. He is more of a show than tell kind of person which doesn't always work out for him, but he was so cute trying to figure everything out. It was fun watching him start to come out of his shell, start to notice other people and have some fun outside of work. I really enjoyed getting to know him.

Sarah is also such a sweet girl. She is so kind and warm to everyone. I mean how could you not love her? She gets along great with everyone in Jonathan's family and would just fit right in. She tries to help Jonathan build better relationships and be a better person. Really the two of them were so cute together!

So even though it started off kind of cheesy it quickly turned into this great read that was just so sweet and fun and I loved it.

Spelling mistakes were a big distraction from the story.

I usually like the brilliant, absent-minded intellectual who can't see what's right in front of him, but here it was taken to the extreme and I was left feeling that Jonathan was flat, stupid, and unemotional. I also didn't believe he could have changed so quickly in the end or that the relationship could have progressed that fast. I never felt the connection between Jonathan and Sarah either. They spend most of their time confused and unsure of the other. Literally, the first mature discussion of their relationship where someone isn't hiding their emotions, they are confessing their love. I just didn't believe them, especially Jonathan. And suddenly Jonathan has always loved her, even though he's just started viewing her as a woman. The entire book fell flat for me and the characterizations were 2-dimensional.

I've liked Adams's other works, but this one is the weakest I've read.

This was a sweet, easy read. Not anything new, but still very well written and engaging.

I really liked this story. I can definitely relate to Sarah's struggle...having feelings or being with someone who is not good or willing to express how they feel. I loved everything about this story. I felt so bad for Jonathan because he felt love was something that had to be earned...but his relationship with Sarah definitely brought a smile to my face. It was such a sweet story. I recommend it.
