Beautifully written, but it wasn't the right book for me. Or it wasn't the right time to read this book. I'm a little burnt out on grim, hyper-realistic medieval settings.

I usually like Bernard Cornwell’s novels but this one fell flat. A shame as it had such great promise.

The Goodfellas of Arthurian Legends, in that Cornwell tells the story with a fanatical control that is matched by his fanatical love for the subject matter.

if you are considering reading Historical fiction, this is a wonderful way to start.
