I heard the author speak at a book festival the year this book was published and was really moved by her story. I've been meaning to read this ever since and am so glad I finally picked it up!

It was a relief when this book ended with some optimism and hope. Most of it is pretty bleak, as the author is working through a lot of trauma, both personal and generational. The story is well told and I appreciated LaPointe's voice.

On one hand, I couldn't put this book down and finished it in 2 days. It goes by quick. On the other hand, I didn't love this book. She was fast paced, moving around too much, and had no organization to her sometimes rambling. But I learned a lot. I have now read two books for the PNW/Alaska Native Americans for Native American Heritage Month to learn a little bit more of that region since I tend to learn more about the Southwest/South Native Americans being in Texas. Things she listens to, references, watches, reads, is me in a nutshell although, I only like one song from Hole. I knew instantly what she meant when she said she found her Agent Cooper. But sometimes, I just wanted to slap the shit out of her for not just slowing the F down and think about the things she was doing before acting immediately. She almost seemed manic. Richard...felt sorry for that guy and I do think she strung him a long. Brandon, Dear God, what a manipulative ass. I would not have gone back to him after repeatedly lying about the honeymoon. I mean who does that? A Narcissist that's who. I am glad she got her shit together in the end, but I needed booze after reading the journey.
I'm not sure if I recommend this book or not, but I think it's such a quick read that it won't matter. I will say though that it talks a lot of her multiple sexual assaults and could be triggering to some.
