”أفكر أحيانًا في أنّ قصة إحدانا هي على الدوام جزء من قصة أخريات.“
من أكثر الكتب عذوبةً وإيلامًا -لهذه السنة- على الإطلاق. (تحديث بعد سنة كاملة: لا أظنه فاز بهذا اللقب فعلًا، فأنا لست قادرة على تذكر أحداث الكتاب، فقط بعض المشاهد الغامضة القليلة المتفرقة ومشاعري تجاهها، ولا أظن ذلك يجعله من أفضل الكتب. بس يعني سعيدة أنه نفسي الماضية كانت متأثرة بهالكتاب لهذه الدرجة).
يتحدث عن تسع نساء تجمعهنّ طبيبة نفسية واحدة، تدعوهنّ للاجتماع والحديث عن مشاكلهن وما جعلهن يأتين للطبيبة من الأساس. وفي النهاية تتحدث هيّ -الطبيبة- عن حياتها الشخصية.
في الكتاب عدّة قصص عن كل الطرق التي يتم اضطهاد النساء بها وايذائهن، وعن محاولتهن لتخطي آلامهن وتقبّل صدماتهن واحتواء انفسهن. تنوعت الشخصيات والأحداث، وتشاركن جميعًا في الألم والأسى.
بطبيعة الحال لا أتفق مع كل قصة وكل رأي وكل مبدأ، ولكن في كل قصة أجد فيها شيئًا من نفسي؛ همًّا، فكرةً أو لحظة، أو أحساسًا وشعورًا، أو أملًا.
حرق(؟): مع ذلك، لم يعجبني الفصل الأخير. كانت القصة جيدة حتى ذلك الفصل، أراه أفسد نهاية الكتاب. لربما لم تعرف الكاتبة كيف تربط قصص هؤلاء النسوة، ولم تجد طريقة أفضل من أن تجمعهم طبيبة نفسية واحدة. لكن فكرة الفصل نفسه، وطريقة انهائها للقصة، لم تكن مناسبة، ليس لي.
”يُقال أن كل شيء يتكرر، وأن كل شيء يعود للحدوث جيلًا بعد جيل، من الجدات إلى الأمهات وإلى البنات، في خط أبدي. إلى أن تكسر إحداهنّ ذلك، توجه ضربة قوة وتكسر التكرار.“
تحذير: عنف، اغتصاب، اعتداء جنسي، اعتداء جسدي، تعنيف أطفال، محاولة انتحار.

I "really liked it" quite far into the book. It's well written and engrossing. Each chapter is about one of the "ten women," who are Natasha (a psychotherapist — or psychiatrist?) and nine of her clients. Each chapter, in itself, was pretty interesting, though my interest started to flag by about the 8th or 9th woman. The nine clients have all been brought together at a sort of retreat at the behest of Natasha. So I was eagerly waiting to see how they would interact, but . . . they didn't. Nine pretty separate lives. And the ending really fizzled. Just nothing, no conclusion, as far as I could see. Unless it's that we're all living our separate lives, important only to oneself.

I really enjoyed this simple yet moving book set in Chile that takes a look at the complex lives of women. Natasha is a therapist who for reasons of her own has invited nine of her patients to a meeting. Each chapter is from the perspective of one of the women. Their stories are diverse but there are some similarities as they unveil their thoughts on love and family. Hands down my favorite story was Simona's. While there are differences between us, her way of looking at life and mine are so similar. The only thing holding this back from being a five star rating from me is that you never get to see the women interact with each other. I would have liked to see how they reacted to each others stories.

I really wanted to like this, but I couldn’t get into it. It just seemed like a bunch of random women telling random bits about their lives. No overlapping, no kind of interlacing. Maybe it happens further in, but it’s not interesting enough for me to try and find out.
