4.5 Stars I'm rounding up for the depiction of autism in this book.

I enjoyed this story even though it was a little slow at times. This story really is all about Rikki and how she filters her world. I loved how strong the depiction of autism is in this novel. There was so much to love about Rikki and how she has learned to function in a world that doesn't always make it easy for someone different. She's found herself a niche and carved out a perfect little nest for herself with her adoptive sisters. The arrival of Lev in her carefully orchestrated world throws everything into chaos, but also provides the opportunity to find the answers she's never gotten about her own past.

I liked Rikki and Lev together. Sure it's a bit insta-lovey but I accept that more in my paranormal stories than in any other. Lev is in a lot of ways your stereotypical alpha male, but I did love how he worked his life around Rikki's needs. He always worked things with a great balance between accepting the parts about Rikki that were always going to be a little different and also helping to push her boundaries and expand the world she could function in.

I liked being back in Sea Haven and look forward to more in the series. If there was one downside in this story it was not getting to see Lev's reunion with his brother and I do hope we get to see that in the future.

Trigger Warnings:loss of loved ones, car accident, mention of rape, and fire

The first chapter or two is all about peanut butter.

In this first book in the new Sea Haven/Sisters of the Heart series, which is itself a spinoff from the entertaining Drake Sisters series, Ms. Feehan delivers a good read with new characters you will want to know! Here we meet a woman with Autism who has fought to make a life for herself in a world where many find her difficult and too different to matter. She is also being stalked though she doesn't know it. We meet a trained operative who doesn't immediately remember who he is or what he is doing and the path they forge together is inspiring and true to a way of life I'm familiar with as the parent of a child with Autism. I was deeply moved by the disorder's portrayal, in a good way. I look forward to reading about the other 4 Sisters of the Heart who are bound in special ways to the element of the Earth.

I loved the previous series which is why this one made it on my TBR list. I had to start this book twice before I managed to finish it, and well... I enjoyed the story, don't get me wrong, love the found family, and of course there's the necessary Russian bad boy who's just going to change but he's super handsome and hot so whatever he did in the past shouldn't matter. Eh. I enjoyed Rikki and that she was not your round-of-the-mill heroine, although by the end I really wondered if she was written true to someone who is on the autism spectrum, it just didn't seem to matter. Like when Lev is worried about how she's going to react to touch but she just melts away at the first touch and has hot monkey sex any time of the day. Mind you, I'm no expert on autism, I just wondered if at some point this was rather a tool to make Rikki interesting than something that actually appeared in her character.

I do agree with what lots of people said before me, so many things are just repetitive. Yes, we get it, Rikki is weird, she suffers from guilt, etc. Lev is dangerous and tortured and whatever. Yes we also get all the pulsing things and the velvety things and I swear I could write a dictionary of the synonyms for all the human private body parts from this book alone. I think I'm just getting too old for erotic novel sex scenes because all I can think about is a list of things that are just not realistic but I imagine I can give this rant at every single erotically inclined novel I read because that's the genre. Oh well.

Anyway, nice little story and honestly would've given it 4 stars but then read the other reviews and realized they were right about things being dragged out too much and being repetitive so for that I deducted a star. But still an enjoyable read.

Given the era that these books were written, it was a good book.

i received this book as a Christmas gift from my boyfriend. i had never heard of this author or series and was completely clueless as to what this book was about. to be honest the only reason i finished this book was because it was a gift. it was too repetitive for my taste. i had no connection to the characters and the romance between Lev and Rikki was too fast for me. maybe if there wasn't so much overused adjectives and information about the main two characters that the reader already knows about i would have enjoyed it more. it just got really annoying after a while. the one thing going for this book is that it has nothing to do with paranormal creatures like vampires or fairies which makes this book stand out.however, the powers were interesting but not nearly explored or explained enough. maybe i just expected too much out of a spin-off book that i had no idea what it was even spinning-off from. oh well, at least my boyfriend tried.
i wouldn't recommend this to everyone, perhaps if you are a fan of the author or series go ahead and give this a shot otherwise there are better paranormal romances out there.
