This is the second book in Carol Berg's "Rai-Kirah" fantasy trilogy. I enjoyed two thirds of the book very much, the other third less so.

Specifically
Spoiler there is an extensive section set in the demons' realm that I found lackluster. For me, it dragged. I found the actuality of the demons' bickering court life disappointing in comparison to their earlier sinister presence. I was also disappointed that my favorite element from the first book--the interaction between Seyonne and Alexander--was largely absent from this book.

Nonetheless, I continue to like Seyonne and to enjoy his narration of the story. Good, but not the equal of the opening book.

date of the reading of this book is misleading - i had the book mostly read, but then i realized i knew the ending so i stopped. not a happy ending and we have to go to another book - i find that annoying. seyonne travels to the world of demons, is tortured a long time, and in the end - is betrayed. yea, great book. and yet, it's carol berg - who usually has meaning in her heartache. i'm still waiting....

The furthering misadventures of Seyonne...lacks the heart of the first book. I was fairly bored for a good chunk of the story and there are parts of the narrative that don't quite square up. The author has admitted to being more of a panster than a plotter so I guess this is to be expected. And honestly, I could've been happy to go along for the ride if the story gave me characters to really care about but, alas, this didn't happen. The first book wasn't perfect either but it had the beauty of its central relationship to give it shape and purpose and heart. For fans of the first book, just be advised that that central relationship is pretty much absent from this book. In my humble opinion, this is a lesser story for it.

Finally went back to finish this and it really hit the spot. I'm excited to read the final book.

Somewhere between 3 and four stars. There are parts of this book that are fantastic, but are brought down by a myriad of other things. Seyonne seems at times to be a wise, middle-aged Ezzarian, but at others to be a petulant teen. Someone aptly summed it up as 'man-agnst.' I feel like Berg creates these character conflicts to add depth, but just feels like some of her characters are inconsistent. Regardless, Revelation is another entertaining entry in her Rai-Kirah saga.

It was okay. Definitely could have used some more Aleksander. Him and his relationship to Seyonne are really what made the first book good so I ended up skimming a lot of this just to get to the parts with him.

A dark book, but out of darkness come great things.

This book is flawed in many ways (the female characters foremost amongst them). It also does not fulfil the expectation raised by book 1: that of a story centring on the relationship between Aleksander and his former slave. The manuscript probably should have been shortened a bit - I found myself listening to parts of the book at double speed because I grew impatient with it.

And yet I was captivated by the story, and I will likely listen to book 3.
