I read this book in one evening - I didn't want to put it down. This fairy-tale retelling was creative, engaging and well-written, with great characterizations. I loved it!

One of my favorite books growing up, this one sparked my love for reading. The magic of the wind, the friendship, the love and heartbreak
Spoilerof Isi and Falada
. I'm so glad this book was my introduction to YA, and I'll never forget the feeling of the wind whipping around me in the backyard during my rereads.

This was lovely. It was a little slow feeling at time, but I wanted to see how the story ended. I enjoyed watching Ani grow, and I will probably read other books in this series.

Giving this book a 4 because I think it would be a wonderful read for someone in the 8-13 year old age range. As a 26 year old, I still found things to enjoy about it, but did find it a bit simple. It does have a touch of darkness, which effectively toned down the sweetness and set it apart from other princess story YA novels. The magic was interesting, the love story (and gender dynamics) well done (if predictable), and I enjoyed the full-cast audiobook (free with an Audible subscription, which I why I listened).

Extremely well-written. Though I knew the general plot from the fairytale, Hale kept me wanting to turn the page to find out what happened next. I didn't feel rushed to read. It was a pleasant journey. I loved the character development and relationship building. Beautiful story with beautiful writing.
