Such an enjoyable read! I loved Saffron and Alexander. Their friendship, both offering the other support and encouragement during their own struggles with recovery - Alexander, PTSD following the war; Saffron's loss of family and harassment by the men in the biology department.
The struggles of a woman in academia trying to establish herself as a person worthy of consideration , the gossip following the unwanted attention of a male colleague- so well done.
Great plot, loved the characters and relationships. Cannot wait for the next!

Maybe it was just me, the fact it was in physical book form and not audio book. But I found this very dry and boring. I only got good near the end about 20 % left of the book. So I am not overly impressed.

A fun, easy read. I like a good cozy mystery on occasion and the characters in this one were great. The addition of plants was just the icing on the cake!

This is a 3 ⭐️ cozy mystery. This book follows Saffron, a botanist at the University College of London (in 1924), through the investigation of a poisoning of one of the professors’ wives. She is the only female in the department and is a research assistant to Dr. Maxwell. Maxwell finds himself the main suspect of the investigation. Saffron is determined to prove his innocence and starts running her own investigation.

This is book #1 of the series and I am looking forward to reading book #2. What kept this from a higher ranking was the fact that the numerous characters were hard to keep up with throughout the novel. They were very similar so they were easier to mix up! This is similar to the Cleopatra Fox series, so if you enjoy those I recommend this series.
