I'm finally getting around to reading these books, and oh my gosh, why did I wait so long? I absolutely loved this book, a great beginning to the Harry Potter series. I felt myself comparing it to the movie a lot and I wish I didn't, simply because I felt like I couldn't be fully into the story, but nonetheless, it was great. I think this would be a great read for people of all ages, the magic, the muggles, Voldemort, the danger, everything is really captivating and I was never bored. Can't wait to move onto the next. If you've seen the movies and loved them, it's worth giving the books a try, or if you're simply into the curious world of magic, give it a try!

I have such a vivid memory of reading this book for the first time. I was in fifth grade, and I ordered a paperback copy from the book order at school. While I waited for it to arrive, I read the Time magazine article about the release of The Prisoner of Azkaban repeatedly. I remember my mom reading the first sentence aloud, then looking up at me and saying, "Oh, this is going to be goooooood."
The first book is the least complex, of course, but it does a masterful job of setting up the world for the next six books. Who could forget meeting Hagrid for the first time? Or Ron and Hermione? Or...well, you get the picture. Now that the series is completed, I have an even greater appreciation for J.K. Rowling's ability to weave together a plot. She was already giving hints about Book Seven in Book One!
