“Funny that he didn’t think all the other people outside were loitering, just the brown kid with the murderer for a brother”

When Pippa is asked to do an extended project (EPQ) for school, she knows instantly what she wants to cover.

Five years ago Andie Bell went missing and was declared dead, despite the lack of a body. Her boyfriend, Sal Singh, was the main suspect. But when his body is found in the woods, it’s case closed.

Pippa aims to discover if Sal is innocent, if he’s s own death was actually a suicide or if this is a double homicide.

What a freaking book!! This had me questioning EVERYONE. By the end I knew partly what was happening and partly not, which for me is crazy because I can usually get the grips of a ‘who done it’ type read or tv.

For a YA this is done quite well! It’s a lil cringey in places for me but any YA lovers will love this, no doubt. To be honest, if you’re not a YA lover it’s worth a shot!

I also think that this portrayed perfectly the racism English people hold towards the South Asian/Desi communities.

This is officially my most annotated book, I wish the author had left blank pages between chapters so I could’ve got all my theories written down😂

Possible relationship spoiler:
I do want to point out that I think the age difference between Pippa and Ravi is a lil too much for me!

Wow. Now this was a read! I often worry reading books about characters still in high school for fear that it may feel too childish and un-relatable to me, but A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder was nothing of the sort! Extremely intriguing, mysterious and a real page turner.

Loved the way the writing switched throughout from the narrator, to Pip’s logs and her evidence. Great twists and suspense. I feel like every chapter I was thinking someone new was the killer. It felt like we were Pippa, solving the case for ourselves.

Also we love Ravi in this house. Such a sweet endearing character.

SPOLIERS:

I feel like I guessed early on it had to be Naomi or Mr.Ward. Mostly for the fact that, Naomi’s first interview gave away that she was EXTREMELY vulnerable and I felt like she wasn’t telling the whole truth. I just had this feeling, with the unknown texts she was receiving, it had to be someone close to Pippa who knew a lot of what she was researching.

Then Mr.Ward…it was the fact that there was an older man in Andie’s life, who could be ruined, all signs to me pointed to him. But damn, as the chapters went on I couldn’t even figure out who it could be!

I will say, I think Mr.Ward’s reveal was a bit lackluster…like he just lets Pippa in and tells her everything?? No fight left? Most of the characters did just give her all the info she wanted but hey, she can be persuasive! But the girl in the attic NOT being Andie? THAT WAS CRAZY!!!!!

A real shock was Becca. I had a feeling she knew more than she was letting on but that reveal at the end was wild. Once Mr.Ward revealed his side I remembered Andie was on caught on video driving the night she went missing, and it hit me that her & her sister look a lot alike. I was like GASP IT WAS BECCA

Good mystery. Just when I thought I had it all figured out there’s a twist. Pip is a senior in high school. In Fairview HS the seniors have a Senior Capstone Project and Pip has decided to go big, she’s planning to solve a 5 year old crime. Five years ago a girl, Andi Bell disappeared and her boyfriend, Sal who committed suicide, was the prime suspect, but Pip never believed that Sal could have committed the crime. She’s taking on the case to clear his name.

This is one of the best investigative mysteries that I have read in a long, long time. Also as an overachieving high schooler myself I saw as lot of myself in Pippa and it was impressive how much respect the author had for her high school protagonists.

I didn't guess the killer but the mystery and glues given by the author all held up in retrospect.
