I've been reading Mark Lawrence's books since the very beginning. I have a paperback copy of Prince of Fools, which I noticed the other day actually says 'map forthcoming' on the map page:)

Never once, in all the books I've read, has he finished a trilogy the way I wanted him to do so. He is infuriatingly consistent with this, and still, I hope, each and every time, to have the answers to all I want to know. And now, with the end of the Book of the Ice, I find myself not only without the ending I 'thought' I was going to get, but much, much worse, feeling as though I need to go back and read ALL the books again to unpick the 'threads' and perhaps find the answers I want for myself. Grrrr.

To me, this means Mark Lawrence remains at the top of his game, and while I might find it all very frustrating, that doesn't take away from my enjoyment of the books, and the universe(s)? he's created.

A fine end to another great trilogy, and one I took my time with because, quite frankly, I didn't want it to end, not in the end:)

My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for my review copy.

This was quite enjoyable. I even forgive the author for ending the previous two books with the same cliffhanger.

Wow the end really bogged this down.
I personally do not like time travel as it was used in this book. It felt cheap and I was really confused. Also they did Turin and Quina dirty with that ending.

I couldn’t get past the fact that this just wasn’t going to be The Book of the Ancestor. Nona is one of my top favorite characters, but I just couldn’t connect to Yaz in any deep way by this third book. She served her purpose and drove the plot forward. That was it.

2023- At the conclusion of this trilogy I can confidently say Mark Lawerence is a giant amongst authors and this work is so good it’s almost intimidating. This book pulled me in to where I cleared my schedule and read the back half nonstop. Mark tied together not only an amazing conclusion to this story while simultaneously interweaving his other stories was beautifully done.

It’s a day later and I’m still in that post- book haze after reading a truly epic story. The characters were philosophical and vibrant with their interactions being complex and profound. It really seemed like every paragraph held some nugget that could expand into a poignant discussion of its own. Looking at Yaz’s journey holistically really shows how grand this tale was and I’m so glad the best story was the last. There are dark moments, whimsy, and many answers to questions I didn’t even realize to ask.

After finding The Girl and the Mountain hard going, I really wanted this book to be a return to form and it did not let me down. Every character felt important and well rounded. [a:Mark Lawrence|4721536|Mark Lawrence|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1648717516p2/4721536.jpg] made me care about them all - even the not-so-nice ones.
I also loved the tie in with the Ancestor series (which I will now have to re-read).
I desperately want more.
