The author did a wonderful job of capturing LMM’s voice. Even though I knew how it had to end I wanted it to end differently.

Very sweet story, cried through some parts, I did think this version of Marilla is very different than the version in the Anne books, but overall I loved this book!

Started reading with trepidation as not sure how anyone could write a good prequel to the Anne books. Very happy with Sarah McCoy's work. She built on so much of Lucy Maude Montgomery's characters styles to help explain Matthew and Marilla as we first meet them in the Anne series. Happy to have an Underground Railroad connection built into the end of the book. I'll read other books by Sarah McCoy!

I can't rate it because I didn't go far enough.

I'm all for this book becoming canon. It was beautifully written and while the author acknowledges that she is not L.M. Montgomery and did not intend to replicate her writing, it felt seamless to me. Even the chapter titles were very reminiscent of L.M.M.'s. There are sweet little nods and references to Anne's story. I saw glimpses of Anne in Kitty Blythe, which gives Gilbert's later attraction to Anne more depth. It was obviously very well researched as evidenced by the author's note at the end. I will be selling the heck out of this book to my customers come October!!

I received this book from Edelweiss in exchange for my honest review.

I'm a big fan of "Anne of Green Gables" and so I was equal parts interested and weary of Marilla of Green Gables." A story about Green Gables by someone other than L.M. Montgomery?

Readers, I was delighted by this book from the start. I've always wondered why Marilla became as hardened as she appears to be (though she is also incredibly loving), and reading this take on her childhood sheds a good light on how she grew up to become the woman she is now.

This is a quick, heartwarming read. One that I urge any fan of Anne Shirley to pick up.

Sweet, beautiful book. Fell in love with every character and their stories.

I really enjoyed this look into what Marillas life was like before Anne.
