The cast of characters is an interesting concept; however, I think some characters were more well developed than others. The main plot isn't what you think, the murder that is teased in the beginning does not happen until about 80% in. However, I did not really mind because I was invested in Lottie searching for answers regarding her mother.

I didn't like the characterization. Most of the female characters have suffered some kind of abuse at the hands of men. It comes of as a crutch for the author. I did not enjoy it.

I had such a good time with this book, and I'm really excited to read more by this author. Love this ferda girlies. Would read a whole set of these baking mysteries.

Honestly, I think the only reason I didn't DNF it was because my fiancee and I were listening it together in audiobook form and we committed to see it through. There was so much trauma at various stages of being (or not being) processed and the story itself didn't merit that kind of triggering...or telling
