Well written, but just made me sad.
The premise is good, but I found that the book focussed overly on the consequences of this initial premise, which I find far-fetched and so disinteresting, rather than focussing on the essential natures of the human animal in society. From then on it was a standard dystopia and so again, not of particular interest to me.
A great book for people who like dystopias, I should say!

Well. I'm not entirely certain what that was. Thomson can really set a mood, though. I feel as if I myself have lived among the sanguines, melancholics, cholerics and phlegmatics - and those who don't fit anywhere, too. I enjoyed pondering nature vs nurture and the day-to-day effects of environment, all through fiction.
