I enjoyed it. The pacing was pretty good and just when I figured things out so did the characters. It all happened naturally.

Above all I think this book is about being hopeful, even though the characters won't acknowledge it.

For a book that's supposed to have magical realism, it really lacked magic. The main character was irritating, and what little plot there was to be found was very bland. Honestly, it was so confusing and boring that I would've DNF-ed it if it wasn't so short.

Such a great concept, but dreadful execution.

I admit that I bought this because the cover and title appealed to me. But I was disappointed by the story - it seemed weirdly random and chaotic.

Loved getting an early peak at this debut novel. Wonderful setting, lyrical prose, and magic from unexpected sources. Also loved that things weren't tied up at the end with a nice bow. Highly recommended.

Note: I'm in a book club with the author.

A little bit of weird pacing but an overall good story with a nice open ending. If you're looking for something a little out there, this is a book for you.

*I received an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

I did not finish this book. I read 65% of it, but was not able to continue it, because I did not enjoy the story.

Although the writing style was very enjoyable, I thought the plot of the story lacked pace. It was dragging and therefore not enjoyable to read. Such a shame because the premise was extremely hopeful for a packed-full storyline.

I'd recommend this to teen readers. I liked the setting a lot because it was different than most other YA books I have read.
