Another amazing book by this author! If you enjoyed her other books, I think you will also enjoy this one. Abby did as she always does, and provides excellent emotional components to her characters that add so much to the overall romance in this book. I would recommend you read the other books in this interconnected standalone series before this one, as there are character crossovers that are important to our characters you would want to know going in. I found the characters and their independent development very lovable, and the overall plot was intriguing in its own way.

This book does contain some sexual content, but it is not vital to the story enough that it can't be skipped if you are like me and don't love those scenes! In addition, I have put emotional abuse on the list because it was the closest I could get to the experience one of the main characters went through as a child. Eu não estava gostando tanto da leitura, me apegando pouco aos personagens, mas nos últimos 30% talvez, me pegou mais. A forma como a autora abordou a questão de genitores - que podem sim serem pessoas não boas, complicados e até mesmo tóxicas - foi algo que achei bem trabalhado, que não costumo ver nos romances mais "novo adulto". Também adorei o final que a Emma não se joga direto na relação, precisa ter um tempo para si, para buscar ajuda e lidar com as tantas coisas que ela passou, mostrando a importância de ser pra si antes de tudo.
O que eu mais gosto nos livros da Abby, é que temas sobre saúde mental, sempre estão presentes, além de passar por tantos outros assuntos mais pesados, sem perder a veia de um romance com clichês.
E adoro passear pelo Abbyverso, caçando as referências.

The set-up of this book and the synopsis don’t really prepare you for the depth that is here. Emma’s journey in this book is something that isn’t at all relatable to me personally but I can imagine that a lot of neglected children would feel seen. There is so much to unpack and while I did laugh at several moments, this book was deeply moving as well. The whole curse-breaking challenge and banter/flirting between Emma and Justin was so sweet. I loved all of Justin’s efforts and care, even while dealing with his own issues. There are a lot of aspects in this book that would usually bother me from a plot standpoint but it was so well-written and shown in a healthy way, that I found myself liking the story. There were just a couple of aspects of the spice that bug me in books which is why this wasn’t a full 5 star read for me. However, I will also say that the spicy scene in this book was much more emotionally driven than I have seen in her other books and that was a positive.

I actually liked this a lot more than I thought I would! While still being a cute summer romance, the characters had depth and the plot focused a lot on Emma’s childhood trauma. I wish I would have read the other books in this series first because I guess there are some overlapping characters, but it does totally work as a stand-alone. Adding more Abby Jimenez to my TBR!

This is my favorite book in the POYW series so far! I’m fully convinced that she can’t write a bad novel. I just LOVE these characters and their relationships so much!!
