Absolutely brilliant! The characters are well rounded and the story never slows down.

A pretty classic whodunnit dressed up with trappings of supernatural and an interesting setting. In the end, this falls into similar issues as other mysteries- having to spend the climax of the book in a dull explanation of what just happened.
I really enjoyed Arent and Sara as detectives, but some of the plot elements don’t make a lot of sense. There’s a leper on board the ship murdering people and they just continue sailing on, without seeming to do much about it at all? And time seems to flow in a strange way throughout. The first half of the book seems to take place over 2 days and then there’s a jump of 2 weeks at some point. It’s not easy to follow in that regard. The ending is unfortunately trite, and the sort of “mundane-ness” of it all is expected but ultimately disappointing . The prose is nothing special; a fun read but nothing more.

I really enjoyed this one. My third by this author and I’ve really liked them all. This was a bit grisly though definitely a lot of blood and gore. The mystery was interesting and I definitely didn’t expect the ending the way it happened!
