I loved this book!! People talked about how it was confusing to keep up with characters, but I honestly liked the perspectives. It was overall very captivating and fast moving. Near the end it was a little confusing and felt that it swept over some crucial plot points quickly that I didn't catch, but all the pieces fell together in the end. I would love a sequel on their new adventures!

4/5
The Devil and the Dark Water was a well executed and planned closed room murder mystery. I loved the setup of the book, the many layers it peeled open as the story progressed and then the final reveal was certainly unexpected. I did have a few small issues, but overall it was very well crafted and executed.
There were a lot of characters and a lot of details to keep track of throughout the story, and sometimes it did feel overwhelming, but there was always progress forward with new information. I did feel though that the middle did drag and there were times the investigation stalled until the next major event would happen.
I do have to say I didn't love the ending, but I also didn't love the ending of 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle and that was still a brilliant book, so I think the same thing applies here. The final reveal was a little bit over the top (and I think not well foreshadowed) and it wrapped up a bit too well for my liking in its own odd way. But honestly this was a great book despite that.
The atmosphere was really interesting, and Turton really managed to squeeze out so much life from such a limited setting. It felt like I was right there with the crew, living through the nightmare with them an trying to figure out what horrible thing will happen next.
Overall it was a great book, a tad long and complex but still very well executed.

I don’t know how an author took such an interesting plot and made it so god damn boring. Whoever compared this to Agatha Christie on a boat had never read Agatha Christie. This read more like some asked ChatGBT to write a murder mystery set on a boat solved by Scooby Doo and the gang. Its my fault for reading past the first chapter.

3.75 stars, almost 4 except it was too long. I enjoyed the mystery and the supernatural elements but somehow it was still bogged down a bit too much throughout. The twists were twisty and kinda pissed me off, if I'm being completely honest lol but for real it was so well done. I usually can figure out the big reveal beforehand, even if it's only pages beforehand I still get it. But he got me with this one. Very clever, Mr. Turton, very clever. I'll be paying even closer attention next time.
