Entertaining and page-turny. It was okay.

Generally I’m not a fan of military-focused fiction, so that was a bit of a turn off for me.

I would have liked a little more world-building detail and character development. I found myself more interested in Serena’s story of being in Mazar-i-Sharif when it fell and her journey back to Kabul to get on the plane. There was clearly an altercation at a checkpoint where Nate and team rescued Sarena and Taj, but it was glossed over at best or ignored at worst. Would have been a better story than the toxic relationship between Izzy and Nate.

NATE IS A REAL YEARNER. Although this was predictable I loved it. I honestly had issues with the constant back and forth it was kind of exhausting and Izzys crazy parents.
The ring in the dog tag honestly had me SCREAMING because WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT nate you are too clever and such a lifelong yeaner. I liked the writing style although at some points it kinda made me cringe I dont like when books use references to social media like Instagram. Overall a good read. Also gotta add that books that involve people who are in the army or war has never been a preference of mine as I get really bored but this kept my attention.
