Firstly: Do not read this on a plane... Other than that, I enjoyed the read, especially the emotional, surprising revelation in the end. As an European, it was really interesting to see an US perspective on the war in Afghanistan. On the one hand side, there's the MMC soldier's perspective, including training, motives, combat scenarios, trauma, etc. On the other hand, there is the FMC politician's POV with the struggles and uncertanties of a relationship with a soldier, diplomatic work etc.

Very late to the bandwagon, but loved this and read it in basically one sitting. The characters are so well written and deep, and you just fall in love with them.
